Accelerated 4+1 Master’s degrees (VT and Partner Universities)

Application Timeline

When should I apply?  Ideally, students should apply one year before completing their bachelor’s degree. Applying early gives you two semesters to take graduate-level courses that can count toward both your undergraduate and master’s degrees.

Students may also apply one semester before graduation, but in that case only courses taken during the final undergraduate semester are eligible to be double-counted.

Master of Science (MS), Master of Engineering (MEng), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) 

Spring 2027 Admission

  • MS Program:
    • August 1, 2026
    • Notification Date: Admission decisions aim to be completed by November 15, 2026.
  • MEng Program:
    • Northern Virginia Campus:
      • International Applicants: September 1, 2026
      • Domestic Applicants: October 1, 2026.*
    • Blacksburg Campus: October 1, 2026 (Blacksburg MEng admissions are restricted to current/former VT students, VT employees, and students at partner institutions.)

Fall 2027 Admission

  • PhD Program (Fall admission only) :
    • Application Deadline: December 1, 2026 (Blacksburg & Northern Virginia campuses).
    • Notification Date: Decisions are typically issued by March 1, 2027.
  • MS Program:
    • Application Deadline: December 1, 2026 (Blacksburg & Northern Virginia campuses).
    • Notification Date: Decisions are typically issued by March 1, 2027.    
  • MEng Program:
    • Northern Virginia Campus:
      • All Applicants: March 1, 2026.*
    • Blacksburg Campus: March 1, 2026 ((Blacksburg MEng admissions are restricted to current/former VT students, VT employees, and students at partner institutions.)

Additional Notes for MEng Applicants

  • *Domestic applicants for the Northern Virginia campus may apply on a rolling basis as space allows. Early submission (by the listed deadlines) is recommended to increase chances for admission and scholarships. Details about scholarships for U.S. citizens and permanent residents can be found here.
